3 Reasons Why You Should Care About Politics

If you live in America and aren’t involved in what’s happening in D.C….I’m going to tell you why you should be. At first I KNOW it can seem boring, I used to think it was excruciatingly painful to think about anything related to government or politics. But really, it’s empowering to know about. Since I have gotten hold of the ongoings of our elected officials, I feel more confident that I can have a hand in my future. This of course is instead of being lead into a future I don’t want.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting their future’s to be decided for them. Do you let someone tell you what to wear every day? What lunch you can eat? What career you can have? No you don’t. And it’s because you have a choice! Give yourself the choice of who represents you in your city, state, and country by being informed. Anyway, here are my reasons why you should dive into the issues:

1. YOU’LL HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE INFORMED CHOICES COME ELECTION TIME

I’m very young, I’m aware of that. I haven’t lived much life, and I’ve only been at the age to vote for 5 years. I’ve only voted in one presidential election, and I voted independent thinking “screw the system, nothing matters anyway.” Wow what a rebel I was. Seeing how everything is going now? Yeah, I’m not really happy with my choices. But hey, I can’t change now, might as well jump right in to an incumbent election that may depend on the very future of America as a successful nation. I’m trying not to get too hysterical here, but in reality it’s going to get crazy. So no matter what party you’re a part of, hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen.

2. YOU CAN HAVE CONSTRUCTIVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT POLITICS. FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Okay, this may just be me, but it seems like politics has kind of become America’s pass time. Move over football, the Government is getting crazy! In all seriousness, everyone is talking about politics. What is Trump doing? Who is this Muller guy? Pelosi who? Yeah, that was me a few months ago. Crazy how everything changes, isn’t it? You know what helped me get into politics? Podcasts. Well, my boyfriend told me that I should learn more about what’s happening in the country, and I resisted SUPER hard.

Finally I thought “Well fine I’ll just jump on the NPR Politics Podcast and show him!” And….I ended up loving it. I started listening every day, catching up on old pods and learning what I had missed. That whole government shut down thing was crazy right? ANYWAY. Moral of the story is, I could finally talk to my boyfriend who loves politics about politics. That was huge. I had my own ideas, my own interpretations, and I could keep up with him! That was a beautiful feeling, and I highly recommend listening to a podcast or two just to experience that.

3. WHAT HAPPENS NOW WILL IMPACT FUTURE GENERATIONS…MEANING YOUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN?

YES your decisions now will impact your children, their children, your children’s children’s children, and yeah all of them. Also the whole future population of the world, but I’ve noticed most people care about their family more than they do the rest of the world. Not judging, I totally understand. But imagine!

Did you hear about how we only have 10 years to reverse the damage we’ve done to the planet or else it’s done for? That’s not long! That’s barely enough time before I’m done paying for student loans, so I’ll be debt free and the world will be doomed. I don’t know about you, but that sounds horrible. Any decisions you make now regarding elected officials will impact what happens to the environment. So ideally, we’re going to start thinking about things like that, and considering the people who are going to make changes to help America. Either that, or everything is going to go to sh*t in 10 years. Yeah, not fun.

SO YEAH, MAKES SENSE RIGHT?

I hope that read this blog entry and consider going on this journey with me. As you can tell, I’m a casual writer. I love breaking things down and explaining them in the simplest way possible. That’s how I got through history in high school, and that’s how I’m going to get through life. Everything can make sense if it’s delivered in a way that relates to the reader. So, together let’s politicize the masses.
